Community Care Behavioral Health (PA): Provider Line 1-888-251-2224, Claims and ePortal
Community Care Behavioral Health Organization manages HealthChoices behavioral health in more Pennsylvania counties than any other BH-MCO, so most practices outside the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh-area, and capital region carve-outs bill it. Its tools sit inside the UPMC family, which is where new billers get lost.
Short answer
Community Care's HealthChoices Provider Line is 1-888-251-2224, open around the clock for customer service and care management, with provider reimbursement and claims Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Providers request and receive authorizations in Community Care's ePortal and use UPMC's Provider OnLine for claims. Billing follows the Community Care Billing Manual in its provider manual.
Where Community Care fits
Pennsylvania carves behavioral health out of HealthChoices. Each county, or group of counties, contracts a Behavioral Health Managed Care Organization, and the member's county of Medicaid eligibility decides which one you bill, regardless of their physical health plan. Confirm the member's county and BH-MCO in the state's Eligibility Verification System before every new episode.

Autism services under Act 62
For autism spectrum disorder claims for children under 21, Community Care requires the private insurer's explanation of payment with each claim, or the exhaustion letter if the policy cap is used up, and providers must verify eligibility, benefits, and cap amount every time the member presents.
Where claims go wrong
- Wrong BH-MCO. The member's county of eligibility changed, and with it the BH-MCO.
- Authorization in the wrong system. Requests sent outside the ePortal, or for a level of care that needs a different route.
- Act 62 attachments missing. Autism claims without the primary insurer's EOP or exhaustion letter.
- Billing manual not followed. Codes, modifiers, or units billed against Community Care's own billing manual rather than general PA rules.
